Sanford, ME — Jun 09, 2007 — Plixer International received positive recognition from Business Communication Review magazine in this year’s April 2007 edition. The article, entitled Network Monitoring: NetFlow vs. sFlow, was written by Drew Robb.

The article covers several aspects of leveraging NetFlow and sFlow technology to manage and optimize network bandwidth. Robb offers insight into what the key advantages and disadvantages are of each technology, and gives advice on which option might be a better fit for specific network types.

“Ned Cahill, IT manager for Schnabel Engineering, uses Plixer International’s Scrutinizer software to analyze NetFlow data. […] Cahill started using Scrutinizer after a new accounting program caused bandwidth utilization to jump. […]”

“He did have network management software which highlighted the spike in the traffic, but it didn’t show exactly what was causing it. With Scrutinizer installed, Cahill could look at the NetFlow data and identify where the packets were coming from.’

“‘The minute we got Scrutinizer installed, I set up a filter and saw exactly what the [accounting] applications were doing to the bandwidth,’ said Cahill. ‘It has an initial push of 128 kbps that lasts a few minutes per user, and then settles down to 40-60 kbps over the life of the connection.”

“Based on that data, he could resize the company’s frame relay network to meet the higher traffic flow without overbuying network capacity.”

Since its initial release in 2005, Scrutinizer NetFlow & sFlow Analyzer has been mentioned in many online and print publications, such as BCR, TechRepublic, and Enterprise Networks and Servers.
