Demonstrations Highlight NetFlow/sFlow Analysis Solution’s Support For NBAR And ASA

Hanni Itah

Sanford, ME and Las Vegas, NV — Jun 28, 2010 — Plixer International, Inc., a leading global provider of network traffic monitoring and analysis tools, will showcase Scrutinizer 7.7, the most recent version of its flagship NetFlow and sFlow analysis software suite, at Cisco Live 2010.

In contrast to other NetFlow analysis programs, Scrutinizer reports on NetFlow NBAR, which performs deep packet analysis to determine the actual application involved (e.g. Skype, Webex, BitTorrent, etc.). Scrutinizer’s extensive support for Flexible NetFlow (the latest version of NetFlow) is what makes Plixer’s implementation of NetFlow NBAR so unique. NetFlow NBAR is far superior to SNMP NBAR, because it delivers the end systems involved with the applications.

Plixer will be demonstrating their NetFlow reporting on flows exported by the Cisco ASA firewall. Scrutinizer supports cross reporting and selection on the different templates exported by the ASA. This is an industry first. As new information is included in NetFlow exports from the ASA and other hardware, Scrutinizer will be prepared to report on it immediately.

Other differentiators that Plixer will be demonstrating in Scrutinizer 7.7 are its advanced report filtering options. While most vendors allow users to simply focus down to the host level, Scrutinizer allows its users to include or exclude certain hosts, protocols, subnets and more. This provides users with more relevant and useful data in their reports. No other tool in the market today can provide that level of filtered data. This relates very closely with Plixer’s commercial add-on to Scrutinizer, Flow Analytics. Flow Analytics eliminates much of the leg work in filtering and reporting by dynamically alerting users to abnormal or potentially hazardous behavior on the network.

Sponsored by Cisco Systems, Cisco Live is an annual communications conference attended by more than 10,000 networkers, IT managers, developers and service providers. Plixer will offer live demos of Scrutinizer 7.7 at Booth #960 throughout the Cisco Live show, June 28 through July 1.

“Cisco Live gives us the opportunity to connect with savvy network professionals and learn about what we can build into future versions of Scrutinizer to deliver an even more comprehensive, helpful and cost-saving product,” said Michael Patterson, Scrutinizer product manager with Plixer. “At the same time, we get the opportunity to expose more people to Scrutinizer, which leverages NBAR and ASA support as major differentiators in comparison to similar products.”
