Cisco NetFlow Port Number

What is the preferred Cisco NetFlow Port Number to listen on?  Well, it depends.  The NetFlow RFC 3954 does not specify a specific NetFlow listening port, however, in my experience 2055 and 9995 or 9996 are the most popular.  Fortunately, our NetFlow solution, by default, will listen for any NetFlow/sFlow traffic sent to it on UDP ports 2055, 2056, 4432, 4739, 9995, 9996, and 6343.

Packet Length Report using NetFlow / IPFIX

We figured out how to report on packet length with NetFlow.  All you have to do is enter “match ipv4 length total” in the flow record of the Flexible NetFlow Configuration .  This entry will export the element ipTotalLength   whereby the NetFlow and IPFIX reporting  tool can provide reports that look like this:

VoIP DSCP Prioritization : NetFlow Reporting

Today I’ll cover the importance of VoIP DSCP prioritization when NetFlow reporting.  We have 3 employees that work remotely in Central Maine, Pennsylvania, and Florida.  They all have Cisco routers and are exporting VoIP data to our NetFlow Analyzer server.  Read the Cisco Medianet Deployment Guide to learn more about setting this up.

NetFlow Billing Done with FnF (Flexible NetFlow)

NetFlow Billing Done with FnF (Flexible NetFlow)

Had a customer call in the other day with a NetFlow Billing question. Apparently his Cisco router is sending over 50,000 flows per second during peak hours.  This is some serious high volume NetFlow. His fancy expensive NetFlow collector couldn’t handle the volume and so we were one of the vendors he turned to.
