Not long ago, Rich Tehrani from TMCnet sat down to interview our very own Product Manager Michael Patterson to talk NetFlow, IPFIX and the recent influx of mobile devices on corporate networks around the world. Mike is a technology entrepreneur who has spent the last 15 years chasing his passion of designing and implementing high value products that help manage networks, large and small. His projects include Scrutinizer NetFlow Analyzer, Ravica Monitoring Solutions and currently the Systrax communities.
In his own words, Mike breaks down Plixer’s rapid growth into a couple of key factors: ease of use for customers, and the ability to integrate with other vendors. ”We designed (3rd party integration) from the very beginning.” Says Patterson. ” The seemless integration between our tool and other vendors tools is very easy. We attribute that to why companies like SonicWALL have picked us up as an OEM partner.”
Mike also talks extensively with TMC about a recent white paper he wrote describing the exponential growth of mobile devices and how this is affecting the way businesses think about securing their corporate network. “If someone downloads our tool, even for an evaluation, they can run a simple filter on Facebook, and look at the volume of IP addresses these sites.” Mike went onto explain how corporations must start thinking about how they will deal with smartphones and other consumer-oriented mobile devices invading their networks, and the current lack of social media monitoring tools.

In the video, Mike hints about functionality in the upcoming release related to Smart Logging and Telemetry as well as Cisco TrustSec, Flexible NetFlow exports, and Cisco Threat Detection. He also talks about the coming improvements to the VoIP jitter and TCP latency reports.Brian
