The World Cup kicks off in two days and trust me, the IT managers are concerned. The potential load on corporate networks is enormous and with an event of this magnitude it could possibly cause expensive downtime. With statistics like 54% of Britains are planning to watch the World Cup on company computers, you can see why it is important to pay attention to your company’s Internet Usage Policy now.

Jim Martin from ExpertReview.com wrote a blog that points out some of the scary statistics about corporate employees and network usage during the games.

“The survey of 2,000 workers also found that most people had given no thought to the possible consequences on their own workplace.”  The article then goes on to say, “IT networks. More than half those polled did not know whether their organization had any restrictions or guidelines in place to stop them accessing sites to watch the tournament.”

What does Cisco’s Flexible NetFlow (FNF) have to do with LEGO blocks?

Well, if you’ve been struggling with configuring Flexible NetFlow on your Cisco routers, using LEGO blocks as an analogy for creating the data export record can simplify the process of the FNF configuration, bringing you closer to the end goal of managing your network traffic flow.

In Brad Reese’s article “How to setup Cisco’s Flexible NetFlow (FNF) with LEGO Blocks“, LEGO blocks are used to visually display the assembly of an FNF record.

Plixer International, developers of a market leading NetFlow and sFlow analysis tool set, today released Scrutinizer NetFlow & sFlow Analyzer version 7.3, bringing network traffic analysis software to the next level.

With the latest release of their NetFlow analyzer, Plixer has introduced several new report types, including NBAR reports. Cisco’s NBAR technology does deep packet inspection into the traffic moving through the router to identify the applications being used by hosts. For example; H323, Telnet, RTP, Exchange and Skype are identified and exported in NetFlow.

“We feel, and have felt for some time, that Flexible NetFlow has the potential to expand greatly on the level of information that can be reported on by standard NetFlow,” says Plixer CTO, Marc Bilodeau. “With Scrutinizer NetFlow & sFlow Analyzer version 7.3, Plixer is leading the pack in not only the adoption of Flexible NetFlow, but in the implementation of its key advantages over other versions of NetFlow.”
